We arrived in Hamamatsu, Japan, just ahead of a typhoon whose ‘edge’ was expected to hit that area at some point. It was Typhoon Man-yi, actually. We were in a fabulous club/restaurant that served fusion Japonese-French food, the La Saison Setsugekka.
The people were super, the music was happening, even the food was great, but the thing I take away with me also my lovely Japanese-styled dressing room. It wouldn’t be my only one this month, though.
By the time we reached the coda on our last song a fierce wind was raging outside, and by the time we hit the street, heavy rain was added to it.
I could sleep fairly soundly through all of that ruckus, but the next day we saw on TV that the typhoon had wrecked havoc in Kyoto, flooding 400 houses and cause their residents to evacuate. (My heart goes out to them!)
Due to the dangers of a flooded bridge, we also had to re-route and wait in a train station for hours until it was safe enough for trains headed towards Tokyo to be able to cross over the raging river waters.
There was actually a moment when we thought that it was going to be a very close call for that evening’s venue in Tokyo. But…we did make it! Whew!
