In 2016 JazzNL will initiate a Jazzexpedition with Dutch jazz musicians to South Africa and facilitate an incoming expedition from South Africa to the Netherlands. In January 2016 more information about the participants will be available. The jazzexpedition initiative is supported by Sena and Buma Cultuur.
Foundation JazzNL is the organising party on the Dutch side. It has successfully launched the Jazzday as the national platform for the Dutch jazz scene. Also there is a production team available to effectuate the plans and start a production office. Lastly SENA and Buma Cultuur are partners with JazzNL for a variety of jazz initiatives.
UNISA is the organising party on the South African side. It has a long history, a solid reputation nationally and an extensive network of partners consisting of: industry members such as SAMRO, schools and universities across the country, festivals such as the National Arts Festival and a host of jazz clubs and performance venues across the country. Prof Karen Devroop is the project liaison.
A committee with representatives of JazzNL, UNISA, Joy of Jazz, Buma Cultuur and Sena have formed a the selection comity. Their selection in combination with the export potential, Dutch copyrights, professionalism and history will be taken into account. For a cost efficiency point of view the committee will aim to choose one or two rhythm sections and a variety of soloist. The following artists have been selected:
