Tribute to Carmen Mcrae
This project focuses on the the songbook and singing style of one of the most dynamic and influential singers of the 20th century. As well, Carmen McRae was a composer, arranger, and pianist.This selection of songs covers a rich array of dearly loved songs from her repertoire which she enjoyed performing in a career that spanned five decades.
Also included are songs from her most challenging project, “Carmen Sings Monk”, which featured the compositions of Thelonius Monk with lyrics.
Carmen was noted for her jazz versions of pop tunes as well as her interpretation her latin/bossanova numbers.
This program, available all year round, with various combo-settings, will debut at the 2015 Jaffa Jazz Festival–with an international, all-star group– in Israel at the beginning of October.
