“After Hours” with Deborah J. Carter
The members of the Coal Harbour Sextet are graduates of the Rotterdam Conservatory. Even at their beginning as a group they were given the Dutch National Prize for Youth Orchestras.
They are collaborating with Deborah in a special program called “After Hours”, which reflects the nocturnal occurrences in the jazz world which would be typical of any city from New York to Tokyo to Amsterdam. Together with Deborah, they will give you a peek into various scenarios that only could occur ‘after hours’, while others are sleeping in their beds..
The program returns to a previous era where jazz clubs were the only place to be seen after midnight and you could find artists like Carmen Mcrae, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra, live onstage with the Count Basie Big Band, bringing audiences to an ecstatic frenzy.
You will also enjoy the music of the maestro of jazz, Duke Ellington, and you’ll hear the Beatles as you’ve never heard them.
“After Hours” will take you night club-hopping and introduce you to various personalities on–and off–the stage. You will savour the atmosphere of the city from late evening until the crack of dawn, when the streets are empty and all is (seemingly) quiet.
Come and relish in a musical evening where the musical heroes of a generation ago return again through contemporary arrangements written by the band members themselves.
